This natural compound has been shown in more than 15 double-blind controlled clinical trials to maintain normal levels of total, HDL, and LDL cholesterol. It inhibits the oxidation of LDL and has beneficial actions on cardiovascular capacity, platelet function, and eicosanoid balance. Derived from sugar cane wax, policosanol is a mixture of aliphatic alcohols such as 1-octacosanol, 1-triacontanol, and others. Studies show between 10 to 20 mg daily of policosanol extract produces benefit.
